What is Yauba?
Yauba is a new, experimental, Indian search engine that seeks to transform the way people find information online, while providing maximum protection for their safety, security and privacy. Launched in "early beta/late alpha" mode on March 2009 after stealth development in Bangalore, Delhi, and London, Yauba is based on over 25 years of cutting edge research from the Indian Institutes of Technology, the University of Delhi, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and the University of California at Berkeley. As a result, Yauba offers some of the most advanced Internet technologies, features, and innovations in the world.
So, what's so special about Yauba?

Most search engines try to gather and record as much information about their users as possible. They (or their parent companies) operate massive server farms with even more massive databases that secretly record your entire search history, your private contacts, the identity of your family and friends, your personal emails, your conversations and chats, your browsing habits, your physical location, details on the software you use on your computer, your IP address, and much much more. This is no exaggeration. Indeed, if you ever saw exactly how much most search engines actually know about your private details, you would be completely shocked.
At Yauba, we completely reject the view that search engines somehow need to keep mountains of data on their own users. Instead, we take the exact opposite approach. We do everything we can to protect the privacy of our users.
  • This is why we do not keep any record of any of your search terms, browsing habits or any other personally identifiable information.
  • This is why we automatically delete any and every piece of personally identifiable information from our servers on a continuous basis.
  • This is why we can have the shortest privacy policy (9 words) of any major Internet service in the world.
  • This is why you can visit almost every Internet site through the main Yauba service on a completely anonymous basis (with the only exception of file types that use other external third party software or plug-ins for downloading or playing).
When we say we take the security and privacy of our users very seriously, we truly mean it.

Most search engines like to brag about the size of their index.
At Yauba, we could not care less.
What we care about is intelligence.
What do we mean by intelligence? We simply mean the ability to think, process information, and respond like a human being. For example, regardless of the size of their index, most traditional search engines still cannot come close to replicating an ordinary human being's ability to recognise common sense concepts.
Try searching for a term like "Java" on other search engines, and you will immediately see what we mean. Most traditional search engines simply cannot "understand" that Java represents many different concepts. So if you were actually looking for information about the Indonesian island located 4000 kilometres from Chennai, most search engines would bring you results that are decidedly less than useful.
Yauba, on the other hand, could not be more different. Yauba can actually "understand" the difference between such concepts such as Java the island, Java the coffee and Java the programming language (and much more). Our distributed electronic semantic intelligence (DESI) algorithms and our word-sense disambiguation extraction technologies can automatically identify the referential "meanings" embedded in various search terms. By focusing on semantic concepts (and not just the mere frequency) of search terms, Yauba is able to display significantly enhanced intelligence.

Of course, all of this advanced artificial intelligence technologies would not matter at all if it was difficult to navigate Yauba's search results. Fortunately, simplicity and intuitiveness are two areas where Yauba really shines. To put it simply: you do not need any advanced knowledge whatsoever to use Yauba ... not even to formulate the most advanced, sophisticated queries.
With other traditional search engines, you pretty much need to have a Ph.D in computer science from IIT (or at least a deep mastery of Boolean logic operations) in order to formulate highly complex queries.
With Yauba, you only need to know how to click a mouse. Yauba does all the hard work for you, by instantaneously auto-extracting, auto-filtering, auto-classifying, auto-refining, auto-categorising, and auto-suggesting tens of billions of web pages, images, rich media files, and many other file types on your behalf so that you can find the exact information you need in an easy to use manner. Yauba's dynamic indexing and results ranking algorithm ensures that you receive the most relevant results, even if you have never used a search engine before.
